Arjun Singh ( True son of Man Singh), Gaddar hai ise phansi do….. Manmohan Singh Hijra hai Ise Gaddi se Utar do…

Shocking News! Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh, who is known for his minority appeasement policies, created a flutter by extending support to Mushirul Hasan, the VC of Jamia Milia Islamia on the issue of legal support to arrested “terrorists”. Zia and Shakeel, students of Jamia Milia Islamia University were arrested by the Delhi Police after the Batla House encounter.

It has been established that both Zia and Shakeel were involved in the serial blasts in Ahmedabad and Delhi and they belonged to Indian Mujahideen terror group. However, Jamia VC Mushirul Hasan announced legal support to the terrorists, saying that they are not proven guilty in the court of law. Mushirul, under fire from several quarters, met Arjun Singh, who in turn patted on his back for his “wonderful gesture” towards his students. He even went on to say that Mushirul’s move was in national interest. What an irony!

The UPA government has become really ineffective because of a reticent Prime Minister and few erring Cabinet colleagues. Leaders like Shivraj Patil, Arjun Singh, Shakeel Ahmed, Shripraksh Jaiswal and many others have gone soft on terror because of the dilemma of vote bank politics. They simply don’t want to lose their minority vote bank. When Afzal Guru, mastermind of Parliament attack, could not be hanged despite SC order, the country expects little from these politicians on other terror-related issues. God save this country!

At least seven people have been killed in an explosion in a house where people were making firecrackers ahead of a festival in eastern India, police said.

Two others were seriously injured in the explosion in Balasore district in Orissa state on Sunday evening.

The blast happened when people were making crackers illegally inside a house in a village, police say.

Such incidents are not uncommon ahead of the popular festival of lights during which crackers are exploded.

The police said a portion of the house collapsed on a group of people after the blast increasing the number of casualties.

US House backs India nuclear deal

The deal would give India access to US civilian nuclear technology

The US House of Representatives has voted in favour of a landmark nuclear deal between India and the US.

The agreement now goes to the Senate for final approval, before President George W Bush signs it into law.

India PM Manmohan Singh, who was in New York for the UN General Assembly, has said India is close to securing a “new status” in the world nuclear order.

India says the agreement is vital for it to meet its energy demands. Critics say it creates a dangerous precedent.

They say the deal allows India to expand its nuclear power industry without requiring it to sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as other nations must.

Under its terms, India would get access to US civilian nuclear technology and fuel.

In return, Delhi would open its civilian nuclear facilities to inspection – but its nuclear weapons sites would remain off-limits.

Race against time

The House passed by the agreement 298-117 votes. Reports say it is likely to go for a final approval to the Senate this week.

“I am happy that one hurdle has been crossed, but it is not the end of the Congressional process and we need to wait for the final outcome,” Manmohan Singh told reporters.

US President George W Bush urged the Senate to “quickly” vote on the deal before it adjourns before October.

“Signing this bipartisan bill will help strengthen our partnership with India,” he said in a statement.

The US restricted nuclear co-operation with India after it tested a nuclear weapon in 1974.

“India will be liberated from the constraints of technology denial of 34 years,” Mr Singh was quoted as saying in a statement issued by his office.

“The civilian nuclear cooperation is in the interest of India, in the interest of the US and in the interest of the world at large,” he said.

Correspondents say it will be a race against time if the two sides sign the deal – first agreed three years ago – and regarded as a key foreign policy priority for both the Indian and US governments.

Earlier this month, the Nuclear Suppliers Group lifted a ban that had stopped India from getting access to the global nuclear market.

Filmstar Saif Ali Khan finds himself in deep trouble after the General Railway Police of Punjab filed an assault case against him and two others in Patiala. Saif and his security guards allegedly beat up the photojournalist Pawan Sharma, when he tried to click the photographs of the actor, who was on a shooting.

Saif’s security guards not only beat up the photojournalist, but also took away his camera. The incident sparked off protests in Patiala and other parts of the state, as mediapersons demanded immediate action against Saif Ali Khan and his security guards. The journalists later withdrew their stir, after getting assurance from government representatives. A case has been registered against Saif and two line directors. Saif is likely to be arrested today.

Our Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh made a sensational statement when he met US President George W. Bush at the White House. Dr. Singh said that Indians loved George Bush deeply. The world was stunned at this statement. Everyone knows that George Bush do not even enjoy the support of 25% American because of failed policies and stubborn attitude.

In India, Bush is seen as a villain because of his hegemonistic attitude and attack on Iraq without a proper reason. But our PM believes otherwise. It is not known how many leaders from his own Congress Party support his view. Whatever, the statement made by our PM made us a laughing stock before the world. Let Indian people decided whether they really deeply loved George Bush or not. Feel free to post your comments here.

Karan Thappar will grill the Archbishop on the issue of conversion and communal violence. The program will be shown at 8.30 PM on Sunday, September 28.

When Karan Thappar further asked the Archbishop if in the interest of India’s integrity and unity, the Church could agree on a moratorium on conversion for 10-15 years, the Archbishop said that would deny freedom to people to exercise their right to convert. After the Armed Forces expressed huge disappointment over the Sixth Pay Commission report and rejected it outright, the PMO intervened and formed a 3-member committee to look into their grievances. After consulting with the PM, who is away on a foreign visit, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee formed a committee with two other members Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Defence Minister A K Antony. Mr. Pranab Mukherjee will head the committee.

The committee will look into objections raised by armed forces over the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations. Defence Minister AK Antony expressed hope that armed forces will get their pay in new scales by Diwali. He also assured that all anomalies in the pay will be duly addressed. The Defence Services have decided to accept the revised pay scales and submit the salary bills to the ministry until the committee submits its report the cabinet.

President Dr. Pratibha Patil took note of the concerns of the armed forces and gave her sanction to the order for ad-hoc payment of arrears, which will help the defence personnel to manage their Diwali expenses.

The US House of Representatives approved the Indo-US nuclear deal, giving a much needed breather to Indian PM Dr. Manmohan Singh and US President George W. Bush. The US House passed the bill by a vote of 298-117. While the House Republicans voted 178-10, the Democrats voted 120-107. It could be recalled that Democrats control the US Senate.

PM Dr. Manmohan Singh thanked US President George Bush. The bill will now go to the US Senate within a few days. It is expected to get the green signal from the Senate although the mandate is likely to be a split one.

Delhi Police Killed 2 innocent

(sorry they are Terrorists, but may be possible that our Home Minister may say “they are our brother and innocent”).

Police say they have secured the area where the shoot-out happened
The Delhi police on Friday shot dead two persons, suspected to be terrorists involved in the September 13 blasts, in a lane near the Khalifullah mosque in South Delhi’s Jamia Nagar.

“The special cell got information from the control room and came here to nab the men. From the information we have now, two persons were killed and two of the special cell policemen have sustained bullet injuries,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) HGS Dhaliwal.

Though the area falls under his jurisdiction, the operation was carried out by the special cell of the Delhi police, which handles high profile criminal and terrorism cases.

Dhaliwal said the operation was not in a mosque as some rumours suggested. The police said, based on the information they had, they reached the L-18, near Batla House, at around 11 am to apprehend the suspects.

The police said the suspects opened fire and they had to retaliate. Special Cell Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma took a bullet in his abdomen and a head constable was injured, the police said.

The police said of the five suspects, one was injured and arrested while two managed to escape.

The locals said the police started the combing operation as early as 9 am. The locals also said they were not sure if there was any crossfire. Soon after the firing ended, some the residents raised slogans against the establishment and the police.

“Last time also, they came into the area a day before Id and conducted a similar operation. There must be a thorough probe and it should be clearly established if those killed were really terrorists,” Salim Mohammed, a resident said.

The police are searching for the two suspects in the neighbourhood.

Atiq, a terrorist wanted in connection with the serial blasts in Delhi and Ahmedabad , and his associate were killed in the encounter.

Acting on intelligence inputs, the police raided the house where Atiq and four other militants were holed up, the police said.

In the exchange of fire that ensued, Atiq and another terrorist were killed, Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnail Singh told reporters.

While one terrorist was arrested, two managed to escape during the operation, he said.

Mohan Chand Sharma, who led the team, and a head constable were injured in the heavy exchange of fire.

Sharma suffered a bullet injury in the abdomen, Dhaliwal said.

The police team had gone in search of the terrorists after the prime suspect in the Ahmedabad serial blasts Abu Basher had identified the four-storied house near a mosque in Jamia Nagar where he along with Delhi serial blasts mastermind
Mohammed Subhan Qureshi had taken shelter in July.

Basher was brought to Delhi on Thursday from Ahmedabad for questioning after the last week’s serial blasts in Delhi
that claimed 24 lives. Indian Mujahideen, a shadow outfit of the Students Islamic Movement of India and Lashkar-e-Tayiba, had claimed responsibility for the Delhi attack.

Dhaliwal rubbished reports that the encounter took place in a mosque.

Meanwhile, 40-year-old Balwant, one of the two policemen of the special cell involved in the encounter with the terrorists in Jamia Nagar, is now recuperating from bullet injuries at the AIIMS’ Trauma Centre.

Police are under pressure to catch the bombers.

Mohan Chand Sharma who also received bullet injuries in the abdomen during the encounter, is undergoing surgery at the Holy Family Hospital at Okhla Road.

“The condition of Balwant is stable. He has a gunshot injury in the right arm. We are going to operate on him soon,” Sushma Sagar, assistant professor, surgery, AIIMS Trauma Centre, told PTI.

“We have also got to see if the gunshot has fractured any of his bone and torn muscles and and nerves,” she added.

Sagar also confirmed that two persons were brought dead along with the police officials.

Police said two terrorists and two officers of their special cell were injured in the encounter.

A top Islamic militant suspected of involvement in the wave of bomb attacks on Indian cities has been killed in a shoot-out in Delhi, police say.

They say the man identified as Atif was killed with another man in a “fierce exchange” of gunfire at a house in the mainly Muslim Jamia Nagar district.

Two Indian policemen were injured in the operation and a third suspect was captured alive.

At least 20 people died in a multiple bomb attack on Delhi last week.

News channels showed an ambulance taking away a bloodied person from the crowded site of Friday’s gun battle.

A large contingent of policemen had surrounded the four-storey home where the suspected militants were supposed to be hiding, witnesses told the BBC.

Unclear

“The police were firing at the fourth and top storey of the building,” one eyewitness said.

“A lot of people had gathered around the building.”

Police arrived at the house after receiving information that some “suspected militants” were hiding there, senior Delhi police official Karnail Singh told reporters.

“They opened fire on the police when we approached the house,” he said.

“Two of our men, including an inspector, were injured.”

Two militants were killed during the ensuing gun battle and one was arrested, he added.

On Wednesday, Delhi police issued sketches of three men who they believe were involved in the attacks.

About 90 people were injured when the five devices went off in busy shopping areas within minutes of each other.

An e-mail purportedly from a group calling itself the “Indian Mujahideen” claimed it carried out the attacks.

On Thursday, India revealed plans to upgrade its intelligence-gathering ability following a spate of bombings.

A new centre will be established to research surveillance and preventative measures and become a focus for counter-terrorism strategies.

Praveen Swami profiled Abdul Subhan Qureshi, the Indian Mujahideen’s bomb-maker, in The Hindu newspaper. Reproduced without permission of The Hindu (I am Really sorry).

Less than forty eight hours before over thirty bombs tore Ahmedabad apart in July, Abdul Subhan Usman Qureshi caught an overnight train to Mumbai — and disappeared.

Police forces across India, backed by the Intelligence Bureau, have made the hunt for the short, thin built man who the Ahmedabad bombers knew by the code-name ‘Kasim’, their top priority.

Based on the interrogation of Shahbaz Husain, a Lucknow businessman alleged to have led the cell responsible for a string of urban bombings carried out by a Students Islamic Movement of India front organisation calling itself the Indian Mujahideen, investigators are now certain that Qureshi trained the bomb-makers who fabricated the bombs used in the terror offensive.

Qureshi, police believe, was also the ‘al-Arbi’ who signed e-mail manifestos issued by the Indian Mujahideen after each bombing — a finding supported by forensic detectives, who have determined that the rounded-‘A’ which ‘al-Arabi’ used to sign the documents matches the rendering of the same character in his personal correspondence.

Against the grain

The story of SIMI’s top bomb-maker sits ill with the narrative often used to explain why Islamist terrorism has grown in India.

Qureshi studied at a secular school, not a seminary. He, unlike many inner-city Muslims, enjoyed access to both education and economic opportunity. Most important, Qureshi’s political radicalisation seems not to have been connected to the win poles that marked the growth the jihad in India, the demolition of the Babri Masjid and the 2002 communal pogrom in Gujarat.

Like many first-generation working-class migrants to Mumbai, Qureshi’s parents — who hailed from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh — took education seriously.

Qureshi graduated from the Antonio DeSouza High School, a church-run institution which caters to children from all major religious communities in 1988, securing a more-than-reasonable secondary school certificate average of 76.6 per cent. Interestingly, Qureshi’s parents offered all their children access to educational opportunity — not just, as is common among religious conservatives, the boys. Qureshi’s sisters, Asma and Safia, have Masters of Arts degrees; none of his three brothers, who also well-educated, appear to have been drawn to SIMI or other Islamist groups.

In the autumn of 1992 — months before Mumbai was hit by a murderous Shiv Sena-led communal pogrom which followed the demolition of the Babri Masjid — Qureshi began studies at the Bharatiya Vidyapeeth in Navi Mumbai. Neither the communal pogrom, nor the serial bombings which followed them, appear to have directly touched Qureshi’s life. In 1995, he obtained a diploma in industrial electronics, and landed a part-time job at String Computers in Mazgaon (northcentral Mumbai). Later, in 1996, he went on to earn a specialised software maintenance qualification from the CMS Institute in Marol (northwest Mumbai).

Armed with these qualifications, Qureshi had little difficulty finding work. He joined Radical Solutions, an independent computer firm operating out of the upmarket Fort area in south Mumbai in November, 1996, on a starting salary of Rs 2,450 per month. By the accounts of his co-workers, Qureshi was an exceptional worker — an assessment that is borne out by his resume. Just three years into his professional life, Qureshi succeeded in quadrupling his pay. He handled several major independent projects, including an intranet implementation for Bharat Petro-Chemicals carried out by Wipro in 1999, and then landed a job with computer major Datamatics.

But then, Qureshi suddenly decided to leave in his job. In his March 26, 2001, letter, he offered the firm only ‘wish to inform you,’ the letter read, ‘that I have decided to devote one complete year to pursue religious and spiritual matters.’

Qureshi’s friends and family claim to have no knowledge of what led him to make the decision. His family claims not to have met since SIMI was proscribed later that year. This seems improbable: Qureshi’s youngest child, with his wife Aafia, is, after all, just two-and-a-half years old.

A career in terror

Mumbai police investigators have begun to reconstruct Qureshi’s career in terror. No one is certain just how he was recruited, but by 1998, Qureshi appears to have been a committed SIMI activist. He was charged, that year, with defacing public property, by pasting SIMI posters. Later, he went on to edit one of SIMI’s house-magazines, Islamic Voice, from New Delhi.

Police sources told The Hindu that Qureshi participated in SIMI conference in October, 1999. Sheikh Yasin, the head of the Palestinian Hamas and the Pakistan Jamaat-e-Islamic chief Qazi Husain Ahmad, were among those who delivered speeches, through telephone links. Seven-year-old Gulrez Siddiqui was reported to have been trotted out in front of the estimated 20,000-strong crowd to read out this couplet: ‘Islam ka ghazi, butshikan, Mera sher, Osama bin Laden (Warrior for Islam, destroyer of idols/My lion, Osama bin Laden).’

SIMI’s growing links with the global jihadist movement became increasingly clear in the months and years that followed. In January, 2000, for example, police in West Bengal arrested Chinese national Abdul Rahman just after he crossed the Bahirhat border with Bangaldesh. Investigators learned that Rahman, who had escaped from a prison in China’s Xinjiang region where he had been serving time for the murder of a police officer, had been brought to India to train Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives. His handlers Aziz-ul-Haq and Nazrul Islam were both SIMI members. Later, in May, 2001, eight SIMI members involved in an abortive plot to bomb the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s headquarters in Nagpur were found to have trained with the Hizb ul-Mujahideen in Jammu and Kashmir.

By the time of SIMI’s 1999 Aurangabad convention, which Qureshi is believed to have helped organise, many of the speeches delivered by delegates were frankly inflammatory. “Islam is our nation, not India,” thundered Mohammad Amir Shakeel Ahmad, one of over a dozen SIMI-linked Lashkar operatives arrested in 2005 for smuggling in military-grade explosives and assault rifles for a planned series of attacks in Gujarat. Among those listening to the speech was Mohammad Azam Ghauri, one of the co-founders of the Lashkar’s India operations. Ghauri, some SIMI members present in Aurangabad say, was offered SIMI’s leadership, but refused.

Qureshi was, investigators say, one of the principal organisers of SIMI’s last public conference in 2001. SIMI leaders told the estimated 25,000 followers who attended the conference that the time had come for Indian Muslims to launch an armed jihad which would have the establishment of a caliphate at its final aim.

In the wake of the attack on the World Trade Centre in New York in September 2001, SIMI activists organised demonstrations attacking the United States of America for being an ‘enemy of Islam.’ SIMI literature hailed Osama as a ‘true mujahid (Islamic warrior‘ and celebrated the demolition of the Bamiyan Buddhas by the Taliban. Muslims were exhorted to ‘trample the infidels.’

Finding Qureshi — as well as figures like Qayamuddin Kapadia, the missing Vadodara based computer-graphics artist who police believe led the SIMI cell which targeted Surat(Kapadia has since been arrested) — could prove key to preventing the next big terror bombings. But the threat will not end with his arrest. Investigations of other SIMI-linked terror cells have thrown up evidence which suggests Qureshi trained several hundred recent recruits to the Islamist group’s terror cells, at camps held across India from 2007 onwards.

India, it seems probable, will be compelled to live with this threat for many years to come.

The mother of Abdus Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqeer, prime accused in Delhi and Ahmedabad serial blasts, said on Wednesday that her son should be punished if found guilty.

“If my son is involved then he should be punished in front of us. We will not stop him being hanged also if he is found guilty,” said Zubeda Qureshi.

Addressing a press conference in south Mumbai, Zubeda said her son was innocent, had a good family background and could not have done such acts.

She also appealed to him to surrender himself irrespective of whether he is innocent or guilty.

“We are all from a good family, all of you should understand that,” she said adding that all her other children were raised well.

Subhan is also suspected to have sent threatening mails prior to Delhi [Images] blasts being involved in carrying them out.
