Bihar is also the birthplace of many religions, including Buddhism and Jainism. The word “Bihar” has its origin in the Sanskrit word “Vihara”, meaning Buddhist Monasteries. Buddha attained Enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, a town located in the modern day district of Gaya. Buddha started spreading his teaching after attaining the Enlightenment at Bodh Gaya. Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, was born in Vaishali, When we speak of Bihar we are remembered of ancient India when Buddhism was evolving into what now is a universal religion. At one time in the epoch of history these “viharas” were strewn all over the landscape of Bihar, around villages and cities alike.

Welcome to Bihar, not in India
The Indian State of Bihar is known as a poor and overpopulated region of Eastern India. The people are largely illiterate It is known for poor government. Yet this rather negative outlook is largely misleading. Bihar has a very long and illustrious history, and was at the very center of India’s struggle for Independence. It is an area rich in history, deep in tradition, and almost unlimited in potential.
Bihar was known as Magadha in ancient times. It was the center of what was called the Mauryan empire. This empire dominated the Indian subcontinent from 325 BC to 185 BC. For the next one thousand years, Bihar was a center of power. It was also at the forefront of Indian culture, and an important center of education. Two very ancient Universities were located in Bihar, but both were totally destroyed by invaders during the Middle Ages. As in other parts of India, religion has always played an important role in the life of Bihar.
It is known as the birth place of more than one religion. Buddha was in the town of Bodh Gava in the modern district of Gava Mahavira when he was said to have attained his Enlightenment. Another religion called Jainism also had its earliest origins in Bihar. Its founder, Mahavira, was born in Vaishali. Even the name Bihar itself has a religious meaning. Its origin is from the Sanskrit word, Vihara, which means Monasteries. It referred to the many “viharas” that at one time were to found all over the district. There is even a tradition that Buddha’s ashes were entombed in Bihar. In the years since the Medieval period, Bihar has passed from hand to hand, as it was the time of foreign intervention in all of India. Bihar was involved in the wars and power struggles of this turbulent period. Sometimes its fortunes were on the rise, and other times on the wane.
The years of endless war and strife took a toll on the area. Foreign exploitation was largely responsible for the poor conditions in the region today. Bihar played a major role in India’s struggle for Independence. Mahatma Gandhi came to Bihar on his return from South Africa, and started the freedom movement in the Champaran District of Bihar. He began what was called the satyagraha, a word for his form of non-violent confrontation. The first issue of this struggle was on behalf of local farmers who were being forced to plant indigo, which was profitable for the British rulers, but was very harmful to the soil, and was contributing to the poverty of the area.

Bihar is Now a Model for the Centre
RJD ministers from the state may not agree, but Bihar is now a model for the Centre, for several `firsts’ initiated by the Nitish government during its 15-month rule.
Sources in the state HRD department said that the Centre had expressed its desire to emulate the common school system(CCS) method being worked out by the Bihar government to end the divide between the rich and the poor in classrooms across the country.
It was learnt that the secretary, school education, in the union HRD ministry, Champak Chatterjee, not only appreciated the CCS model conceptualised by Nitish, but was also in favour of suggesting it to other states to follow the same. Nitish has already appointed former bureaucrat Muchkund Dubey to work out the modalities for CCS in Bihar.
Furthermore, the Centre was also willing to provide complete financial assistance to achieve the goal of revamping the education system in Bihar by Nitish.

This was not the first time the Centre evinced interest to replicate any Bihar model.
Earlier, the planning commission, too, showed interest to follow the coupon system introduced by Nitish to provide subsidised commodities and kerosene through the PDS for people who are below the poverty line in the state.
The move was aimed at plugging the loopholes in the PDS, as well as to keep a check on the corrupt practices of ration dealers to sell foodgrains meant for PDS in the open market.
The decision to reserve 50 per cent seats for women in the panchayat polls held last year, which aimed at eyeing a gender revolution at the grassroots, has already earned kudos. Bihar was the first state in the country to reserve 50 per cent seats for women in panchayats.
The same model is going to be replicated in the state, in the up and coming urban bodies polls, initiated by Nitish for an `empowered’ women’s raj, which would be beyond the considerations of caste, creed and religion.

We North Indians are Bleeding emotinally……..

I am also curious about Bihar and the people who belongs from Bihar!
But the true fact is all indians hated biharis only because they are hard worker. In assam, Maharastra, Tamilnadu, Panjab, Hariyana every where they kill the innocent biharis. If you want to live with pride then you need to organise all biharis.
And demanding the free country so biharis can live with pride.
Always remember that Bihar leads the country. Did you remember that Ashoka in Patliputra, Gandhi in Champaran, Gottom Buddha in Gaya, Mahavira in Rajgira!
All Indians hates us because of our ritch souse and our glorious past history.
So Please unite and help Biharis.

You are right.I respect it and also,i am talking of unity only.
But as far as i think we should not demand Other Country.
We are proud Indians and worldwide and even in india we were treated as true patriotic persons.
India is injected in our bloods,and to go out of India means bleed to death.
We should unite.
Bihar,Jharkhand,MP,UP,Kolkata,Rajsthan should join hands in throwing out the anti North Indian Feelings.
See many states are demanding their seperate country,and you think that some where in the political history,we north indians were responsible to hold this country together and now its our duty to keep all states together.
we have lot of challenges to face.we will face and emerge as a winner…………..

We all should support Raj Thackeray and take his initiative ahead by doing more…
1. We should teach our kids that if he is second in class, don’t study harder.. just beat up the student coming first and throw him out of the school
2. Parliament should have only Delhiites as it is located in Delhi
3. Prime-minister, president and all other leaders should only be from Delhi
4. No Hindi movie should be made in Bombay. Only Marathi.
5. At every state border, buses, trains, flights should be stopped and staff changed to local men
6. All Maharashtrians working abroad or in other states should be sent back as they are SNATCHING employment from Locals
7. Lord Shiv, Ganesha and Parvati should not be worshiped in our state as they belong to north (Himalayas)
8. Visits to Taj Mahal should be restricted to people from UP only
9. Relief for farmers in Maharashtra should not come from centre because that is the money collected as Tax from whole of India, so why should it be given to someone in Maharashtra?
10. Let’s support Kashmiri Militants because they are right in killing and injuring innocent people for the benefit of their state and community..
11. Let’s throw all MNCs out of Maharashtra, why should they earn from us? We will open our own Maharashtra Microsoft, MH Pepsi and MH Marutis of the world
12. Let’s stop using cellphones, emails, TV, foreign Movies and dramas. James Bond should speak Marathi
13. We should be ready to die hungry or buy food at 10 times higher price but should not accept imports from other states
14. We should not allow any industry to be setup in Maharashtra because all machinery comes from outside
15. We should STOP using local trains… Trains are not manufactured by Marathi manoos and Railway Minister is a Bihari
16. Ensure that all our children are born, grow, live and die without ever stepping out of Maharashtra, then they will become true Marathi’s

Living in Mumbai and talking against the Marathi people is not correct. I have been to many places in India. Nowhere are you accepted without any inhibitions as in Maharashtra.
In Bengal and Kerala you cannot survive without knowing the local language. And most important,you cannot go against their culture and sentiments as you are doing staying in Mumbai. Go and have a look there when you can.
The law and order is excellent in Maharashtra.Being a Bihari you will surely remember the ‘DANDA RAJ’ of Laloo,isn’t it?
Why did the Biharis give in to his strong arm tactics? Where were the intelligent Biharis? Scared to oppose Laloo? Aren’t you all ashamed to have meekly voted for Laloo?
And then you have the temerity to question the Maharashtrians and shout from your rooftops?
First set your state in order.
We have nothing against the Biharis. But we cannot allow them to pour into Maharashtra without any controls resulting in shortage of amenities.
